He was drafted in the third round of the 2008 draft. He played in the minors since then.

On April 7 he was called up from Buffalo to replace Andres Torres who strained his calf on opening day. Kirk went 2-4 getting his first 2 major league hits which were all singles. On April 9 Kirk hit his first Major League homerun against the Washington Nationals. On April 26 he got his first walkoff of his career against the Marlins. For more see Mets Sweep Marlins. He was sent down on July 30 as Mike Baxter returned from the DL.
2013[]
Kirk was sent down as Juan Lagares took his spot on the roster on April 23. He was called up on June 9 as Rick Ankiel was DFA'd. He was sent down on July 27 to make room for Jenrry Mejia on the 25-man roster.
