Miguel Descartes Batista Jerez (born February 19, 1971 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Major League Baseball starting/relief pitcher who is a free agent.

On July 4 he signed a minor league deal with the Mets. He was called up on August 26 to fill up Scott Hairston's spot on the roster since he was added to the DL.

He made his first start with the Mets which his 12th club on September 1 against the Florida Marlins in the 5 Game Series. He got the win which became his 100th victory of his career.

He made the final start of the season as he got the win and threw a complete game to beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 on September 28. For more see Mets Take Finale of the 2011 Season.

2012[]

On January 10 he re-signed with the Mets to a minor league deal along with Fernando Cabrera and Sean Kazmar. On May 20 he was sent to the DL with strained muscle in his lower back. His spot was taken over by Chris Schwinden. He came off the DL on June 5 as he took over Ramon Ramirez's spot. After making a start against the Los Angeles Dodgers he was DFA'd on July 22 and his spot was replaced by Elvin Ramirez.

He was released on July 26.
