Sandy Alderson

Richard Lynn "Sandy" Alderson (born November 22, 1947 in Seattle, Washington) is the general manager of the New York Mets. He replaced Omar Minaya and the interim GM John Ricco.

He became GM of the Mets on October 26, 2010 but official announced on October 29, 2010 at Citi Field. His first job as GM was to find a new manager as Fred Wilpon and Jeff Wilpon both fired Omar Minaya and manager Jerry Manuel.

Many people suggested former Mets second baseman and current manager and third base coach of the Brooklyn Cyclones, Wally Backman should be hired for his tough and strong motives and great relations with the team's players. Others included former third base coach Chip Hale.

On November 23, 2010, Sandy signed Terry Collins as the new Mets skipper. During his first year he released Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez and traded Francisco Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran.

On September 27, 2011, he picked up the option on Collins contract and made him manger until 2013 for the Mets. For more see Terry Collins Is Coming Back.
