After the 2011 season the Mets star shortstop Jose Reyes became a free agent since 2003. During the season there was a protest by Mets fans to prevent the Mets from trading Reyes. Reyes didn't get traded and stayed with the team until the end of the season. In the final game of the season Reyes won the batting title becoming the first Mets player to ever do so. He got the lead with a bunt single in the first inning and was taken out of the game after that.
After the season ended many questions came like Will Reyes Return? Well he didn't as on December 7,2011 Reyes signed with the Florida Marlins to a 7 year $105 million contract. With the Marlins he wore number 7 just like he did with the Mets. Reyes former number 7 was later give to bench coach Bob Geren.
So overall the Reyes Era Collapses.
